Regional Business Confidence Drops as Costs & Skill Shortages Persist

CCIWA Regional Pulse Media Release 04Jul25
CCIWA’s latest Regional Pulse Report shows business confidence in WA’s regions—including our own—has slipped again this quarter, with only 36% of businesses expecting improved economic conditions in the coming months.
🔹 66% of regional businesses are struggling to fill positions
🔹 67% cite rising operating costs as a major barrier to growth
🔹 Lack of housing for workers is now the third biggest concern, reported by 43%
DYCCI board member and CEO of Busselton Hospice Care Inc., James Jarvis, shared:
“In aged care, low unemployment makes recruitment difficult. It also impacts volunteering—though this is offset by high retiree engagement in our region.”
While cost pressures are easing slightly, workforce shortages and housing availability remain serious barriers to growth for regional businesses.
