Drug and Alcohol Testing - Regional WA

A regional employer will be confronted with some additional considerations if they have an employee who is experiencing difficulties with drugs or alcohol, especially when such matters become evident in the workplace.

Unfortunately, workplaces are facing these problems more often. Drugs and alcohol can cause major disruptions in an employee’s work pattern and commitment to the job, with potential knock on effects to other employees and elevating duty of care issues for the employer.

Bush fires- business disruptions & employee entitlements

During the hot summer months the threat of bush-fires is increased. If your business is affected by a bush fire or your employees assist with such an emergency, you may want to consider what to do.

The following information is applicable only to national system employers - if unsure which employee relations system you fall into, please call ERAC on (08) 9365 7660.

Backpackers Tax

Working Holiday Makers Tax Announcement (Backpackers Tax)

This week the Federal Government announced that after the review of the proposed Working Holiday Makers Tax rate of 32.5%, that the tax rate will be set at 19%. We see this as a win for all of the regional businesses who rely on holiday makers for seasonal and isolated work. Thanks to all of our members who put in a submission. If you have any feedback on this announcement I would be keen to hear it.

Important Issues for Small Business

We have some important issues that face small businesses.

When a small business does well, they invest, take risks, employ more people, pay more tax - by supporting a better environment for small business - everyone wins.

Regulation

Hannay Lane Again

Another street party is being planned by the DYCCI, DDPA and City of Busselton for the 10th of November. We want to generate the community’s interest in the potential of this space as a draw card to the CBD.

Would you or your business like to be involved? We would love assistance with styling/ set up of the area, food stalls, wine tasting stalls, fun activities etc Contact Trish 0428229445.

Penalty Rates

The CCIWA’s position on this issue:  you cannot deregulate trading hours without balancing out the ledger with making penalty rates more reasonable. Penalty rates have a direct negative impact particularly on tourism destinations with a high number of hospitality and retail traders. We know that many of you have contributed information and submissions to the Fair Work Commission (FWC) in support of applications to reduce Sunday and Public Holiday penalty rates for employers within the retail and hospitality industry.
